Award Finalists
2005 turned out to be a very successful year for Vellco Tyre Control and concluded with the accolade of being honoured as a finalist in the York Evening Press Business Awards.
Having applied for nomination at a late stage in proceedings, Vellco recently found themselves as one of three finalists in the ‘Best Environmental Company of the Year’ category. Vellco was represented at the event by directors, Bob Fell and Sue Fell plus John Campbell – business development director, Erlinda del Mar, accounts and administration manager and Dave Hollis – transport and logistics manager.
Commenting on the event, John Campbell states: “It was a very professional event which provided the Yorkshire based companies chosen to attend a lot of promotional recognition. Although it was regionally based it generated a huge wealth of representation from a lot of different industries all under one roof. The significant amount of networking that took place and the way the dinner was professionally organised was a credit to the York Evening Press and without doubt is an event that Vellco would like to be involved in and support in the future.”
Mr Campbell also noted that he considers it an outstanding achievement for Vellco to be named as a finalist at its first attempt. “The ‘environmental business” is considered to be a very crucial and growing category within the awards and it is interesting to note that when it was announced that as just one company, Vellco had collected in excess of 6 million used car tyres during 2005, there was a noticeable gasp of amazement throughout the guests attending,” he added.
Although not able to attend the event because of overseas business commitments, managing director, Chris Fell was equally enthusiastic about Vellco’s latest achievement and comments, “This business accolade has added a most welcome finale to an impressively successful year for the company and there is no doubt that we will enter this event in 2006. Much of the credit for becoming a finalist must go to John Campbell and our PR Consultant, John Stone of Sapphire Media who worked hard to put together a professional package for the judges. In effect, I feel confident that we have learnt from this enjoyable experience and can seriously contend for the top prize next time around.”
The York Evening Press award for “Best Environmental Company” was finally presented to Mil-Tek Central Ltd for its progress in the commercial baling business. The Potter Group was also nominated as a finalist in the category, alongside Vellco.
