The Boss – “A New Concept in Tyre Fitting”
Hofmann Megaplan has launched what it claims is “a totally new concept in tyre fitting and removal technology,” namely The Boss super automatic tyre station.
The Boss revolutionises the way tyres are changed by mounting the tyre in a vertical position, enabling a better view of both beads, and eliminating the need for a tyre lever. Designed specifically for stiff, low profile tyres and run flat tyres, the machine is operated by a keypad control, making the whole process fully automated and non-contact.
A built-in wheel lifter raises the wheel to the correct height for mounting onto the shaft, and the rim is then clamped pneumatically through the centre hole. Using the keypad, the operator can then position the hydraulically operated rollers and ‘fingers’ that fit and remove the tyre without any stress or fear of damage. Seating of the bead is aided by the use of the rollers to press the tyre into position at the same time as inflating
“Whilst The Boss is not designed to replace the market for conventional tyre changers, it will certainly have a place in performance tyre shops and dealerships where vehicles are factory fitted with the new generation of run-flat tyres”, comments Hofmann Megaplan MD James Boon. “Run flat technology is here to stay and this will dictate a revised approach for handling these types of tyre, and The Boss meets that demand”.
Over 150 machines have already been sold in other markets, proving that The Boss is a concept being welcomed by the tyre industry.
