Michelin to Make $80 Million Investment in Plants
(Akron/Tire Review) As was first reported by Tire Review, Michelin North America (MNA) plans to invest $80 million over the next six years to upgrade equipment and increase capacity at its semi-finished rubber production facilities in Sandy Springs and Starr, South Carolina.
Both facilities produce rubber components for tyres. The components are produced at the two plants and are shipped to MNA tyre plants. Work will begin in December at the Starr facility, and will result in the addition of 25 jobs. No timetable was set for work at the Sandy Springs facility.
“As demand for Michelin tyres continues to increase, these facilities play an increasingly crucial role in keeping our production lines running,” said Jim Micali, MNA’s chairman and president. MNA said the investment is based on the approval by the Anderson County Council to amend an existing fee in lieu of tax agreement.
