Marangoni Launches Mythos UHP Tyre
Marangoni Tyre has launched a new tyre series aimed at the European ultra high performance market. The new Mythos range will combine “leading-edge technology” with “experience acquired in motor racing” to make a Y-rated road tyre, the Italian manufacturer explains. Marangoni even goes as far as describing the new tyre as the “jewel in its crown.”
Currently 30 per cent of the European replacement tyre market is made up of tyres approved for speeds of 240 km/h and higher. With this percentage expected to increase, Marangoni’s efforts to produce a UHP tyre are seen as a response to these developing market conditions. The manufacturer puts it another way: “This new product is the synthesis of the know-how and experience acquired by Marangoni over many years of research, races and tests in the most extreme conditions.”
For evidence of the new tyre’s high performance pedigree, Marangoni points to the Mythos’ performance in the Nürburgring 24 hour race. The Mythos is “a tyre that has proven its worth right from the very first testing stages,” company representatives explained, adding: ”The results achieved on the Nordschleife qualify the experience drivers can expect from Mythos on everyday roads.”
The new tyre incorporates a number of new technological features. Firstly there is what the Italian manufacturer calls “Constant Void Ratio” – a tread design method of optimising the contact area between the tyre and the ground, improving grip and braking. Then there is “Adaptive Sidewall Stiffness Control.” Marangoni claims its exclusive sidewall design ensures the maximum level of drivability and comfort. These features are said to be used in addition to Marangoni’s existing PST technology platform, which is used on all high-end tyres.
According to the Italian manufacturer, the result of this combination of new technology is: high resistance to aquaplaning, due to the directional tread pattern and the four wide longitudinal grooves and low noise levels, due to the optimised shoulder block sequence. As far as handling is concerned, the new CVR technology is said to be fundamental to performance. “In synergy with the new profile, [CVR] guarantees maximum grip in all conditions, ensuring driving pleasure and maximum safety.” At the same time the company’s Adaptive Sidewall Stiffness Control (ASSC) is said to ensure better absorption of any irregularities in the road surface.
As the Mythos is aimed at sports cars and for the prestigious saloons, the entire Mythos range also features the rim protector to help safeguard valuable wheels. Like all Marangoni tyres, the Mythos also comes with the Lifetime Warranty, which now covers any damage resulting from normal use on the road.
