ContiLifeCycle Concept
Continental Truck Tyres has introduced a ‘cradle to grave’ ContiLifeCycle tyre management concept, which it claims can reduce tyre operating costs by as much as 25 per cent.
The manufacturer’s aim is to encourage hauliers to think beyond the tyre management basics of purchase price, service life and reliability, and to consider the impact correct tyre maintenance can have on vehicle running costs.
By integrating the ContiLifeCycle concept operators can benefit from additional mileage and potentially four lives from their tyres says the manufacturer. According to research almost one-third of the operating costs of a truck/trailer combination can be affected by selecting the correct new tyres, hence Continental’s advice that tyre choice is “an important decision”.
Its concept also advocates regrooving and retreading, describing them as proven methods of extending the life of a tyre. Arthur Gregg, business director of commercial tyres at Continental said, “About 70 per cent of new truck tyres are being re-used but we feel it could be higher. For around 60 per cent of the cost of a new tyre an operator can get very similar mileage”.
Jill Rodgers, marketing manager for Continental commercial vehicle tyres commented, “As many discerning fleet operators will know, looking after tyres during their service life has a huge impact on the actual tyre service life achieved and hence the real tyre costs. There can be no doubting the benefits of the ContiLifeCycle strategy to any fleet business – there are clear savings to be made.”
