Alcoa Forges 4 Millionth Wheel in Hungary
Alcoa Wheel Products achieved a European record when the Székesfehérvár, Hungary plant produced its four millionth forged truck wheel on 6 October 2005.
Alcoa sees the as achievement a reflection of the company’s position as the largest forged aluminium wheel supplier in Europe. Customers include European truck manufacturers Scania, Volvo, Renault, DaimlerChrysler, MAN, DAF, Iveco, and European trailer manufacturers such as Feldbinder, Spitzer, Benalu, Schmitz, Krone, to name just a few.
Compared with steel wheels, Alcoa’s forged products offer the much greater strength of one-piece forgings. Forged aluminium wheels are also lighter than steel wheels, which increases payload capacity and therefore revenues for owner/operators and fleets.
Alcoa Wheel Products’ Székesfehérvár, Hungary plant opened in 1997, but Alcoa has been selling forged aluminium wheels in Europe since 1981. Today trucks and trailer original equipment manufacturers, dealers and aftermarket customers in Europe, Australia, Japan, Brazil, South Africa and other nations are served from the Hungarian plant and the Belgian warehouse/service centre.
