Alongside this, shipments from members of the Rubber Manufacturers Association members declined by just under one per cent in September, indicating gains in market share for non-RMA members. RMA members are Bridgestone/Firestone, Continental, Cooper, Goodyear and Michelin.
Looking ahead, industry analysts believe that continuing high fuel prices will adversely affect tyre sales if motorists cut down on miles driven. However, it is not all bad news for the tyre manufacturers, as prices are expected to remain buoyant, due to a slow-down in tyre production caused by high prices and shortages of raw materials.
