Bandag OE on 1,000 New Trailers
This is not the first time that DFDS has specified Bandag – last year they bought 1,800 Krone trailers, fitted with the retreaded tyres. Says Sören Lund, DFDS Transport Equipment Manager: “Compared with new tyres, Bandag products are much cheaper, yet they deliver higher mileages and as-new reliability. They also preserve valuable resources and are friendly to the environment, which is important to both DFDS and our customers.”
DFDS Transport leases its 5,000 trailers and, up to the year 2000, the vast majority operated on new tyres, but increasing concerns over tyre costs, mileage and the recycling of worn casings led to retreads being considered. At the same time, DFDS outsourced its tyre management activities to the Eurofleet Service Provider network and Bandag manufacturing dealers. Today, close to 90 per cent of DFDS trailer tyres are Bandag BTR-SA retreads.
