TCS Suffers Fire
Tyre Collections Services (TCS) have suffered what local firefighters have described as a huge fire. Fire crews took more than 24 hours to get the fire under control after witnesses reported seeing a plumes of smoke coming from the company’s Bull Lane, Moxley, Wednesbury site.
Commenting on the fire, TCS Managing Director, Mark Hetherington said: “Of course this is a real blow to our imminent operations and it is too early to say just how much damage the fire has inflicted on the site. However some tyres were rescued from the affected area and it is our hopeful intention to remain trading in whatever format is possible.”
West Midlands Fire and Rescue spokesman Phil James said hundreds of tyres were on fire. Water was taken from a nearby canal to try to extinguish the fire.
“We have mechanical diggers in to turn the burnt rubber over. But that will [cause] the rubber underneath the pile to burst into flames again,” he said. Eighty fire fighters tackled the blaze at its height and smoke could be seen from around 40 miles away.
The blaze broke out on Saturday (17th Sept) evening setting hundreds of tyres on fire and fire crews were still attending the incident this morning (19th Sept).
Phil James, spokesman for West Midlands Fire and Rescue states that up to eighty fire fighters tackled the blaze at its height and smoke was visible up to 40 miles away adding, “However the smoke posed no health risk to the surrounding neighbourhoods and all roads around the site have now reopened.”
