Michigan — From Agri to Airplane Tyres
(India/Rubber Asia) Michigan Rubber (India) Ltd. is part of the Electra Tek Corp. of the Grand Cayman Group of Industries, a US business group with diversified business interests in the US as well as India in technical collaboration with ATEMCO USA. Fully promoted by non-resident Indians, Michigan Rubber manufactures a full range of tyres for automobiles, agricultural equipment, a host of industrial tyres, and even tyres for airplanes.
The company runs two modern plants with a well-equipped R&D unit and an experienced quality control team in India. Among other things, it plans to set up a radial tyre plant in India. Michigan currently produces an annual capacity of 1,500 million rupees worth of tyres. It is also registered with DOT, USA, the company adds.
Michigan Rubber has been producing and selling tyres in India right from 1983, supported by a network of dealers, distributors, branch offices, etc. in all major Indian cities. Besides, it has a similar network in overseas markets such as US, Germany, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines, Africa, Pakistan, Dubai and Iran, say company officials.
“We are the only Indian company that makes airplane tyres,” say officials. Michigan also claims it is the only Indian firm having own aircraft, airstrips and Government-approved hangars in India to fly its executives. Furthermore, the company also provides technology to tyre producers located as far apart as in Brazil, the Philippines, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
