ContiChampionContact Special World Cup Tyre
Continental is celebrating the 2006 World Cup with the launch of a special. In the run-up to world’s most prestigious footballing event (from 2006) the ContiChampionContact will be available from tyre dealers. Franz Beckenbauer, Sepp Blatter and Brazil’s legendary Pele will all be using it when they come Germany for the FIFA World Cup 2006, as the tyre will also be fitted to all VIP vehicles and shuttles.
The so-called soccer tyres were originally only intended for official use. Now, however, Continental AG has reversed its decision. “Every car-driving sport enthusiast will be able to purchase the ContiChampionContact, decorated with stylised soccer balls on the sidewalls, at tyre dealerships,” ensures Ralf Hoffmann, European brand marketing manager. Eight sizes will be produced in 16, 17 and 18 inch sizes.
The ContiChampionContact is based on ContiSportContact 2 and utilises the same asymmetrical tread pattern, the main difference will be the addition of the football sidewall design.
According to Continental, even before the Confederation Cup got under way, the tyre caused quite a stir when a large quantity disappeared from Continental’s Korbach plant. Individual tyres then began appearing on the Internet. “The ContiChampionContact will not be delivered to retail outlets until January 2006. Drivers must thus assume that any tyres offered for sale before the end of the year are stolen goods,” warns Ralf Hoffman.
