BRMA Director’s Charity Trek a Success
Director of BRMA, John Dorken, successfully completed the trek he undertook in the High Andes to raise funds for the Medical Aid and Relief Charity for the Children of Chechnya. He raised £6000 and received some generous contributions from a number of companies including Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone and Pirelli.
Mr Dorken said: “The whole trek was pretty challenging. The first leg – the Inca Trail – was an excellent warm-up. It was no doddle – we had to get up a pass of 4200 metres on the second day, which was quite exacting. But the weather was excellent and the views and the Inca sites along the route were spectacular. But the second leg – the circuit around Ausangate, a 6300 metre mountain, – was a different kettle of fish. Most of the trek was at altitudes of over 4500 metres and we had to cross two passes of well over 5000 metres. It was very cold and to make matters worse it snowed every day we were up at these heights, even though it was supposed to be the dry season! Still I survived to tell the tale and thanks to the generosity of my sponsors we shall be able to provide much more help to the children in the orphanage we support.”
The director described the challenge as “curiously addictive” however a repeat performance is not on the agenda at the moment. He would like to extend his thanks to the tyre companies that offered their support and all others who contributed – friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances.
