Bridgestone Launches Long Distance Steer Tyre
Reliability and mileage topped the list, followed by traction and grip, fuel efficiency and comfort. With the trend towards larger, more tightly controlled fleets, cost per kilometre is assuming ever-greater importance
For the vehicle manufacturers, there is an added focus on safety and, due largely to EU legislation, on environmental matters. The R249 has been developed to create a competitive advantage for today’s fleets, without sacrificing safety or environmental friendliness.
Bridgestone claims that the new tyre offers up to 15 per cent higher mileage than competitive brands, resulting from advanced casing and tread design and a compound specially designed to resist cuts and chipping.
The rate of rubber degradation has been slowed, thus allowing the tyre to retain its grip and handling properties for longer, plus the rolling resistance is low, helping to reduce running costs.
Shoulder sipes and grooves between the ribs provide good braking and handling in the wet, while a squarer footprint means that pressure distribution is more even, leading to less irregular wear and reduced vibration. Noise levels are low, meeting the latest EU requirements, and the casing is retreadable, allowing a multi-life capability and postponing the end of life disposal date.
The R249 will be offered to both the OE and replacement markets. Initially, the sizes available will be 315/80 R22.5, 295/80 R22.5 and 315/70 R22.5, with further sizes becoming available in 2006.
