Toyo Tyres Produce Slick Performance
Toyo claims to have turned conventional racing wisdom on its head, following tyre partner Nick Williamson’s recent driving performance. Williamson leads his class and is currently second overall in the Track and Race Saloon Car Championship Class B and has won five out of the six last meetings, running on Proxes R888 tyres.
The achievement is made more interesting by the fact that it was earned in a Peugeot 205, racing against Cosworths and RS500s.
“It’s incredible,” laughs Williamson adding: “Cars on expensive slicks just can’t live with the Toyo’s performance. I am up against cars with double the BHP of my car as well as slick tyres, but on the corners the Toyo Proxes tyres are driving round the outside of them. I have run the same set for six rounds now! It’s saving me a fortune… and I’m still winning!’
Toyo’s technical manager, Alan Meaker explains the tyres performance: “The Proxes R888 was designed as a race tyre for the road from the outset. It may carry all the appropriate ministry blessings and be sticky in the rain, but it’s basically a house-trained competition tyre!”
