Schumacher Considers McLaren Move
Kimi Raikkonen has won the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix, beating championship leader, Fernando Alonso, into second position. Meanwhile reports that Michael Schumacher is considering a move to McLaren have emerged in the German press.
Raikkonnen’s McLaren-Mercedes started in pole position but was beaten to the first turn by Renault’s Giancarlo Fisichella. Raikkonen took back his lead during lap one and then held onto his advantage until his victory. McLaren teammate, Juan Pablo Montoya took third place making it an all Michelin podium.
Schumacher’s lack of results this season could be one explanation for why the reigning world champion is reportedly considering a move to McLaren-Mercedes.
According to Germany’s Bild Zeitung, the seven times world champion has attended two “secret meetings” with Norbert Haug, the man responsible for Mercedes-Benz’s motorsport activities. The newspaper reported that the pair met for the first time in Budapest three weeks ago, before meeting again this weekend in Istanbul. There has been no official comment on the matter.
