From High to Extreme Performance
Matador divides its winter tyre portfolio into three levels – mild winter for use in Western Europe; mountainous, for central and Eastern Europe; and, for the most extreme winters, the Scandanavian/Siberian range.
According to Matador, the company’s Western European products (MP 59 Nordicca and MP 58 M+S Silika) are “renowned for good driving properties on snow, wet snow as well as on wet roads.”
Then there is the company’s mountainous range (MP 55 Plus Silika and MP 56 Silika), which is designed for use under permanent snow cover throughout winter. These products are distinguished by good adhesion on snow as well as on ice, the company says.
The Scandanavian/Siberian lines take sub-zero traction up a gear, through their studable capabilities. Matador describes the MP 57 Sibir and MP 51 Sibir 2 as being for use “under the conditions of extreme winter in Scandinavia and Siberia. They are characterized by extra adhesion on snow and ice.”
Matador also offers a Winter SUV line running in parallel with its other winter products. This is centre on the MP 59 Nordicca tyre, a specially designed product featuring an asymmetrical design. According to the company, the MP 59 is intended for SUVs that require “maximum performance during bad driving conditions in winter period.” Its recommended usage is 90 per cent road and 10 per cent off-road.
The MP 59 is also said to improved adhesion and breaking properties on snow covered surfaces as well as performance on wet and dry surfaces. The MP59 tyre was developed with higher emphasis on safety during high performance usage, compared to its predecessor.
Matador’s flagship winter SUV offering also features a new generation (HAO FREE) ecological tread compound. The company reports that this exhibits very low rolling resistance characteristics. The compound also contains HD silica resulting in increased low temperature adhesiveness and significantly increased durability, the company says.
