CTNA Presents Enhanced Proposal to Laid-Off Mayfield Workers
(Akron/Tire Review) Continental Tire North America (CTNA) negotiators presented union representatives from CTNA’s Mayfield, Kentucky, plant with an enhanced severance package for employees that were laid off due to the suspension of tyre production in that plant late last year.
The new proposal, presented on 11 August, provides laid off hourly employees with lump sum payments of up to $15,000 based upon years of service as well as additional $2,500 for healthcare expenses. The proposal also includes an early retirement supplement of $340 per month for certain employees with at least 28 years of service, according to CTNA.
“At this point, the only major issue remaining open is pension eligibility,” said Rick Ledsinger, CTNA’s vice president of human resources. “Because this issue affects only a small number of employees, we believe that the parties can reach a mutually beneficial resolution of this remaining issue and we have asked the Union to return to the bargaining table as soon as possible to help provide much needed assistance to the laid off Mayfield employees.”
A date has not yet been set for continued negotiations, according to CTNA officials.
