Bridgestone Buys Goodyear’s Rubber Plant
Bridgestone has completed the acquisition of Goodyear’s stake in the Indonesian based Sumatra Plantation for $62 million.
Goodyear said the decision to sell its 95 per cent stake is consistent with its strategy to focus on core business activities. This transaction is not expected to “significantly impact” the company’s ability to acquire natural rubber for its operations, says the manufacturer.
Bridgestone will rename the plantation P.T. Bridgestone Sumatra Rubber Estate.
The estate began operations in 1917 and is one of the largest natural rubber estates in North Sumatra. Its activities include the planting, growing, tapping, and processing of natural rubber. The estate comprises approximately 18,000 total hectares (47,000 total acres) and has approximately 5,000 employees.
