Tyre Collection Services Suffers Fire
More than 50 fire-fighters from across the midlands tackled a fire at Tyre Collection Services Ltd on the Walsall/Sandwell border at the end of June. Around 500 tyres were involved at the height of the fire in Western Way, Moxley. Bosses at the firm blame arsonists for the fire, local news sources have reported.
The blaze broke out at around 3.40am and 10 crews of firefighters were needed to deal with the flames. Station officer Belton said: “The thing with these sorts of fires is it’s difficult because you have a large volume of toxic smoke which we have got to bring under control for environmental issues. “We also have to prevent the water running off into the watercourses, which we have done. There has been an investigation into the impact on the environment, because of the nature of the fire,” he added.
Tyre Collection Services’ Western Way site stores tens of thousands of tyres for recycling.
