Pirelli Working to Beat Michelin.
Peugeot boss, Jean-Pierre Nicolas has predicted that they will have a ‘real chance’ to win in Argentina next weekend – and has announced that the team will introduce a new tyre at the Rally Finland in August.
According to motorsport web site crash.net, Mr Nicolas reckons Argentina could well play back into Pirelli’s hands – and in Finland, the Italian tyre manufacturer is planning to introduce an all-new tyre evolution, something that should help Peugeot and the rest of the Pirelli shod teams, such as Subaru.
“The difficulties that rival teams running on the same tyres as us are facing in their fight against the championship leaders prove that we need to improve in this area,” said the Peugeot Boss.
“Pirelli is perfectly aware of this and they are working very hard, just as we are doing all we can to adapt the 307 WRC’s suspension to their products. At the beginning of the season, the whole Pirelli range was new to us. We now have a better knowledge of their products and that has strengthened our collaboration, but there is still scope for improvement.
“The coming events will be more favourable to our Pirelli tyres, with Rally Argentina taking place in winter, and therefore in damper and colder conditions, while we will also have a new tyre evolution for Rally Finland, an event on which our drivers excel. I can’t promise that we will win, but we have a very real chance and I can assure you that we will do everything in our power to make the most of it.”
