Michelin Expands Production In Shenyang
Groupe Michelin is to invest $170 million in expanding production in Shenyang, China. The Asia Pulse news agency has reported that the group will invest this sum in the Shenyang Economic & Technology Development Zone, in order to add another 156,820 square metres to the land it already owns. A memorandum of understanding signed by Michelin and the zone explains that the company plans to use this land to increase its truck tyre production capacity.
The expansion project is scheduled to start construction next March, which will expand the Shenyang facility’s annual production capacity from 700,000 units to two million units after completion.
The Michelin Shenyang Tyre Co was the first joint venture launched by Groupe Michelin Group in China. It became a solely owned venture of Michelin in 2003, with a total investment of $150 million. Shenyang is the capital city of Liaoning Province in northeast China.
