Firestone’s Launches World’s Widest Agricultural Tyre
Firestone has launched what it claims it the world’s widest agricultural tyre. At 1250 millimetres wide, the company reports that the agricultural tyres is a full 200 millimetres wider than the nearest competitor.
According to Firestone, the tyre has a large tread radius and a relatively flat tread profile, which allows the tyre to establish a large square footprint (6,226 square centimetres) as soon as the rubber hits the soil. The rounded shoulder is designed to minimise soil disturbance during turns.
One feature that might appeal to farmers is the tyre’s has a 1.994 metre diameter. Although the tyre is obviously a physically large product, it features a rim width of 44 inches so it can be used on smaller tractors.
Each tyre has a load rating of 7309 kilos and is available in a number of variations including the floatation range, offering the same benefits for smaller size tyres, and the forestry intended steel belted version.
Commenting on the new tyre Firestone marketing manager, Barry Coleman said: “These tyres have been developed in the USA, where Firestone are the market leaders in farm tyres. Despite the specialist nature of this product, we’ve already sold several sets within Europe, and the response from farmers is really positive. We’re now looking for an opportunity to test them here in the UK.”
