Avon Helps Develop ‘Super Caterham’
As part of a long-standing relationship with the maker of some of Britain’s best loved sports cars, Avon Tyre Racing has developed special ultra-high performance road and race tyres for the 155 mph Caterham Seven CSR.
Although its retains the classic Seven shape, the new CSR is substantially different to existing models. That’s where Avon stepped in. Because the CSR will be available in both road and race application specifications, Avon has produced designs designed to suit both applications. For road use there’s a derivation of the CR500, a road-legal yet track biased ultra-high performance tyre that is already used on many Caterham models. The race tyre however, is modelled on a Formula 3 Slick.
“We’ve enjoyed a close relationship with Caterham for many years now and it’s always exciting to be involved in the development of a new car, especially one with the tremendous potential of the Seven CSR,” said Julian Baldwin, Cooper-Avon Tyre’s director of motorsport.
Ansar Ali, managing director of Caterham Cars echoed that sentiment: “Tyres are a vital component in any car with as much performance as our new Seven CSR, so to have the technical support and enthusiasm of the Avon Tyres racing team available to us during the development stage was an enormous help. Long may the relationship continue.”
