Michelin Workers Vote for Industrial Action
Workers at Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent Remix plant have voted to take industrial action after a dispute over pay conditions. Members of the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) at the factory supported strike action by almost three to one and industrial action short of strikes by just over four to one. 81 per cent of the T&G members took part in the vote.
“This vote is a clear indication of the frustration and anger of our members at Michelin,” said Margaret Armstrong, Stoke-based regional industrial organiser for the T&G. “It sends a powerful message to Michelin managers that they should come back with a new pay offer which recognises the contribution made over the years by a workforce which has added value to the company.”
Michelin has offered a non-consolidated pay increase of £650 or 3 per cent. This means that any rise in pay would not count towards the salary on which pensions are calculated. That offer was rejected in a workplace vote.
