Pirelli Continues Rally Sponsorship
Pirelli will continue its UK and Ireland rally involvement, the company announced at January’s Autosport/Aftermarket Show. The manufacturer will sponsor the Kwik-fit Pirelli British Rally Championship and the Pirelli Irish Tarmac Championship, the latter for the second consecutive year. More than 3000 people visited the Pirelli stand during the course of the show. The company has since describe its participation as “a great success,” adding that its Ford Focus WRC simulator was one of the main attractions.
The simulator is an exact replica of the Ford Focus driven by Colin McRae in the 2001/2002 season. The car is fitted with the Colin McRae Playstation 2 game and also featrues air suspension which simulates every twist and turn of a rally stage. All proceeds from the Simulator were given to charities including Hospice Care, Cancer Research and Children in Need.
In addition to rally and circuit tyres, a selection of Pirelli’s car tyres were exhibited, these included P Zero Corsa System and the Eurofia run-flat, the latter being launched in 2001, as the first tyre of its kind produced by the groundbreaking MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotised System). The P Zero Corsa System is designed to meet the specific demands of ultra-high performance cars on both road and track, whilst the Euforia run-flat, enables a driver to cover up to 150 km with a flat tyre in perfect safety at speeds up to 80 km/h. Experts were available to answer questions on this and other subjects.
