Michelin win Malcolm Transport Contract
The Malcolm Group, one of Scotland’s largest road transport companies, has signed a three year contract with Michelin for the supply of truck tyres for its fleet. The deal covers 335 tractor units and 1,000 trailers, all to be fitted with Michelin E type tyres.
Andrew Malcolm, chief executive of the company, explained the choice: “We invited three tyre manufacturers to tender for the contract and awarded it to Michelin based on the whole life cost and environmental advantages of fitting a tyre which has four lives.Whilst our tyre bill will rise initially as we fit new Michelin tyres, we have taken this step with the medium to long-term in mind. Subsequent years will see us benefit from being able to extend the life of the original Michelin casing through regrooving, RemiXing and then regrooving again to achieve maximum mileage performance.”
The contract will be supported by ATS Euromaster, which will supply and fit the tyres once the existing tyres have worn. Any new trucks or trailers bought by the transport company will have the Michelin tyres fitted as standard.
‘Truck Tyre Awareness’ training has also been provided for over 30 technicians at the group’s six workshops. The training will include how to extend the life of the tyre by regrooving. The RemiX process will be carried out be Michelin’s plant in Stoke.
