Michelin Supports Worldwide Road Safety Campaign
Michelin has become involved with a project that aims to reduce the number of road deaths in developing countries. The scheme, implemented by the Global Road Safety Partnership will see the tyre manufacturer working together with Shell, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Renault and Toyota to focus on the issue of road safety.
According to the World Health Organisation’s statistics, if present trends continue, road accidents will have increased by 65 per cent in 15 years time.
The project will take place over the next five years through an investment of 10 million dollars (£5 million). It will focus on the main issues surrounding road safety such as the safety of pedestrians and the use of seatbelts, and on training professionals involved in the automobile and transport industries in developing countries.
Several regions have been chosen to participate and the names of the countries will be released mid 2005 explains Michelin.
