Firestone Launch New Agricultural Tyre
According to Firestone the European market for vineyard (and orchard) tyres is likely to grow, despite the wet weather of 2004 it claims that farmers are re-evaluating their crops and considering fruits and vegetables that may not have been viable decades ago. Hence it has introduced a new range of radial tyres for the Central European market, and UK vineyards.
The new Radial 4000 is designed for medium-to-low horsepower tractors. Its construction and compound has been designed so that it can perform in hard terrain or soft soil, and on flat or hilly conditions, explains the manufacturer. The tyre has a higher number of lugs and a new tread compound developed for intensive road use, together these features were designed to improve tyre life and durability.
A reinforced sidewall and bead construction was also created to improve lateral stability. The 60 degree lug angle at the centre of the tyre has a reinforced carcass, this was chosen to provide better driving stability and steering accuracy. Higher rated inflation pressure gives the tyres a higher load capacity so that they can withstand the tractor’s front implement weight. A flat tread contour and wide tread arc also allows soil compaction and rutting to be kept to a minimum says the manufacturer
