Trade Show Skills Centre
The CV and Automotive Trade Show is to support a major careers initiative through next year’s exhibition. The event will host a Skills Centre displaying a range of careers across the road transport and commercial vehicle industries. The scheme is intended to help cut skills shortages across the two related business sectors.
The IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers), the road transport sector of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE/IRTE), is driving the new idea. The proposal is to introduce a specific road transport careers area to the show for the first time. Visitors will be able to view information on paths into the industry and on opportunities for training and career development.
“There are so many misconceptions about careers in road transport that the CV Show is the ideal way to show just how stimulating and rewarding those careers can be,” says Tracey Shelley, chief executive of the SOE. “This is a great way for the industry to show what it has to offer, with existing visitors and careers professionals and young people sure to have their eyes opened about the opportunities out there for them.”
A 1,000m2 area has been created to give information about all types of careers. These range from computer based fleet maintenance, through vehicle diagnostics skills to logistics, fleet management and satellite-based telematics. The Skills Centre will run for the three days.
