Emerging From The Haze
The same accounts for business. We know a lot about the tyre business in the Western world, but we know very little about the Chinese tyre market. One of the few things most of us recognise is China’s position as the emerging market and its enormous future growth potential. With a 32-page, bilingual supplement in November’s issue of Tyres & Accessories and its German sister magazine, Neue Reifenzeitung, the two publications are shedding some light on what is really happening in China. Right now the players on the Chinese tyre market are positioning their forces for what will come next – the consolidation of the market. Global players like Bridgestone and Michelin want to stake their claim in China. At the same time, domestic manufacturers with international aspirations like Giti Tire and Triangle, and small local producers are also putting their efforts into developing new capacities and international standard products with the intention of claiming their share of the perpetually strengthening Chinese market. In the future companies that last the course will have done so by surviving an almost Darwinian process of “natural selection.” Which manufacturers will evolve into major Chinese players remains to be seen…
