New Tyre for 2005 BTCC
Dunlop has launched a new tyre for the BTCC in 2005. The tyre will be made from the same compound and in the same size as those currently in use but will feature a stronger construction.
Aramid, a material similar to Kevlar will provide more strength and encourage higher performance, explains the manufacturer. A number of tyres were tested at Snetterton before TOCA and Dunlop made the final decision in conjunction with the team principles.
Tony Leake of Dunlop Motorsport commented: “The new tyre will make it very interesting. I think one of the strengths that the series has is how well the teams have worked with us. It bodes well for the new tyre. With the current tyre we had warning signs when the tyre was being pushed beyond its limits so we could adjust set-up. With the new tyre we won’t have that luxury. Obviously everyone has the advantage of the increased performance which has got to be good for the series.”
