Goodyear Top Autocar Tyre Tests
Autocar magazine has published its annual tyre tests this week, with Goodyear dominating the results. The independent tyre test compared five leading tyre brands in the UK, across two categories of car.
Family car tyres were compared on a VW Golf 1.6, and ultra high performance tyres were compared on the Vauxhall Monaro 5.7 V8. Goodyear won both categories.
Autocar’s testers described the new Goodyear HydraGrip tyre as “exceptional” and the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3 won the high performance tyre test.
The tests covered handling, road noise and aquaplaning performance. However it was the wet braking tests that the tyre manufacturer says put its tyres at the top. According to the magazine tests showed a 10 metre difference in stopping distance between Goodyear tyres and the worst performing of the well-known tyre brands.
“Relate these distances to potential accidents and you will appreciate how significant they are,” stated the Autocar test team, led by road test editor Chris Chilton.
Lisa Faulkner, Goodyear brand manager, added: “The Goodyear Hydragrip has a massive performance advantage in wet weather conditions as a result of its innovative DynamicDrain-TRED technology. A unique tread design improves road contact under braking and gives optimum aquaplaning resistance on even the wettest of roads. We claim it reigns when it pours – and Autocar agree.”
