Villeneuve to Drive for Renault
Renault is lining up former world champion Jacques Villeneuve to replace Jarno Trulli. Italian driver Trulli left Renault three races earlier than originally planned amid accusations that the team was undermining him and supplying inferior equipment.
In need of a driver to fill the cockpit for the remaining Chinese, Japanese and Brazilian Grand Prix, Renault is turning to the Canadian driver.
Renault team boss, Flavio Briatore told the BBC: We have reached an agreement for Jacques to test for the team at Silverstone on Wednesday and Thursday. “This test might lead to Jacques joining the team for the final three races of the season.”
However, Villeneuve will not be able to make an immediate comeback with Renault. The team has no vacancies for 2005, with Spaniard Fernando Alonso staying and Italian Giancarlo Fisichella arriving from Sauber.
