Dramatic Climax to Wales Rally GB
Petter Solberg has won the Wales Rally GB, claiming his third successive victory in what commentators described as a thrilling final day. The news that a car running on Pirelli tyres stole the glory comes after Sebastien Loeb, who uses Michelin products, predicted that tyres would be central to success at the race.
Subaru driver, Solberg, told journalists that the Wales Rally GB “was the biggest and most difficult win for us,” adding that: “I’ve never had to push so hard in my whole life as I did on the last couple of stages, my nerves were outside my body and for the spectators it must have been incredible.”
Overall Sebastien Loeb is still top of the championship table, with 84 points. Petter Solberg’s win strengthens his position in second place (54 points). While Markko Martin is hot on his heels with 53 points.
