Cooper Avon Unveil ‘The Next Big Thing’
Cooper Avon Tyres Ltd has confirmed that it has developed a 330/30R17 motorcycle tyre. The new product will be available for sale in early 2005.
The company believes the new product will continue the success of the 300 series, launched at the beginning of 2004. The new tyre’s full title will be 330/30R17 87V Venom-R AM42. It will be suitable for 11.5 and 12.5 inch rims and, like its predecessor will be of radial construction with aramid belts for added stability. The radial construction also means it can be paired with a radial, bias belted or cross ply front tyre.
The 330 will also features special rim protectors, which are normally only found on top of the range car tyres. These, as you might expect, are designed to prevent wheel damage and were made with the potential damage caused by potholes in mind.
Having made its debut at the Sturgis rally in the US at the beginning of August, the new Venom will be on display in the UK at the NEC Motorcycle Show in November. The Venom-R range also features a number front tyres to match the appearance of the ‘fat’ back tyre. These include the Venom-R AM41 120/70R19 60W, 120/70-21 62H, 130/70R18 63H, and 150/80R17 72H.
Commenting on the new Venom-R tyre, Cooper-Avon’s motorcycle sales manager, Graham Matcham commented: “The 330/30R17 takes us forward in a planned and controlled way. We have worked together with Bourget Bike Works USA to develop a custom tyre for which we know the technology exists to apply its safe application.”
