Bridgestone Open PCR Tyre Plant in China
On 24 September 2004 Bridgestone Corporation officially opened a Chinese tyre plant. The new factory, in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, is the first plant that Bridgestone has built in China and brings the company’s total number of Chinese factories to three. The plant will produce passenger car radial tyres and will operate as Bridgestone (Wuxi) Tire Co. The company also runs another PCR tyre plant in Tianjin and a truck and bus radial factory in Shenyang.
“China’s stunning progress is cause for amazement on every visit here,” noted Bridgestone chairman, CEO, and president Shigeo Watanabe at the opening ceremony. “The expansion work that is progressing rapidly on the freeway link between Wuxi and Shanghai is a good example. Everything has moved far ahead from what I remembered from my last visit. That encourages us at Bridgestone to bring production up to speed promptly here in Wuxi and to do our part to contribute fully to China’s motorization.”
Bridgestone (Wuxi) Tire Co, Ltd, completed the building of its new plant in April and began producing tyres there in July. The company now has a total of 47 tyre plants in 23 nations.
