RDKS By Siemens VDO For Commercial Vehicles
Siemens VDO Automotives has developed a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for commercial vehicles that it will present at the next Automechanika show.
The sensor system named “Tire-IQ“ is said to go beyond the capabilities of other TPMS and not only provide a low air pressure early warning system, but also warns driver when the tyre changing interval has been reached, thus optimising fleet systems.
In the future, for efficiency reasons, the classic twin tyre set up is looking likely to be replaced by wider Supersingle tyres. These tyres are said to produce fuel savings while carrying heavier loads. In connection with the tyre’s run flat technology, the use of Supersingle tyres means the need for a driver to stop due to a flat could be almost completely eliminated.
