Goodyear to supply ‘Runflats’ for Maserati Quattroporte
Maserati have selected Goodyear as an exclusive option on its the 400 brake horse power Quattroporte. Goodyear will supply Eagle F1 GS-D3 Extended Mobility Technology (EMT) tyres.
The car has a V-8 engine and is capable of 170mph. The tyres were developed at Goodyear’s Technical Centre in Colmar Berg, Luxembourg, and will be supplied in 19 inch sizes, 245/40ZR for the fronts, and 285/35ZR for the rears. Jean-Jacques Wiroth, director original equipment, for Goodyear Europe, said: “For Maserati to ask Goodyear to be the exclusive supplier of runflats is a tribute to their confidence in Goodyear’s runflat technology. This is an extremely high performance car, which requires the ultimate in handling performance, coupled with the benefits of runflat safety and convenience.
“This development is notable for its two ‘firsts,’ it is the first time Goodyear has supplied Maserati and it also the first time Maserati has fitted runflats to one of its models.”
Last year Goodyear supplied more than 1.3 million tyres, to be delivered in 2004, to manufacturers including BMW (for the 5 series and the Mini) and to General Motors, for the Corvette.
