Buell and Pirelli Hit the Streets
Buell, a Harley-Davidson subsidiary, has selected Pirelli as its exclusive tyre supplier for its new Lightning CityX XB9SX. The company, which specialises in the production of sport motorcycles, has called the new model an “urban street fighter.”
The person responsible for creating the Lightning, company founder and chief designer, Erik Buell, said the machine was designed as “the ultimate naked bike.” Pirelli is extremely pleased that the Scorpion Sync radial has been chosen for OE fitment, as the company believes the tyre is as distinctive as the bike itself.
The company claims its Pirelli patented zero degree steel belted radial construction, provides uniform pressure distribution and efficient contact patch for performance and high speed stability. This ensures better dynamic characteristics and ease of steering, providing the bike with precise handling and grip, especially in tight corners. At the same time braking performance has been optimised preventing “stand up” braking tendencies. The high silica compound improves cornering traction in all weather conditions.
Buell representatives described the product: “the Pirelli Scorpion Sync is a really cool tyre that has a real coarse tread pattern: a little bit of a mixture between a dirt bike tyre and a street bike tyre.”
