Bandvulc’s Knights Achieve Record Production
Bandvulc Tyres’ has announced an all time high in its sales volumes, following its achievement of record production levels at its Ivybridge factory.
The company believes that the increase in performance is all thanks to the £1 million investment, which refurbished the company’s facility with a ‘Camelot’ theme, earlier this year.
“Camelot is proving to be a huge success. The team is focused, we’re realising our objectives, surpassing our manufacturing goals and the physical, ergonomic and operational changes we’ve made to the factory are having an incredible impact on both staff and output,” said Patrick O’Connell, director, Bandvulc Tyres.
The company’s investment integrated its existing warehouse and factory, to create a new manufacturing facility for the whole production process. It is now concentrating on reducing end of line waste, and estimates that this will save thousands of pounds each year for reinvestment in machinery and staff.
Production manager Tony Mailing commented: “Naturally competitive and taking pride in their work and achievements, the workers within each cell have been overshooting daily targets in a bid to outperform their colleagues within other cells.
“All the ‘Camelot’ changes have improved the working environment significantly and resulted in better levels of communication between workers who are now more motivated to succeed than ever before, to the benefit of all,” he added.
In a bid to motivate staff Bandvulc explains that the Camelot theme was chosen to inject fun into the workplace, shift supervisors assume the role of King Arthur, overseeing the work of their Bandvulc ‘knights’, and assisted by ‘Merlin’, the factory’s computer system. The new tyre preparation and buffing bays have been characterised as one of the 13 Knights of the Round Table, with signage reflecting their name and history. The Order’s dominant idea is ‘the love of tyre, quality and cleanliness’. Undoubtedly a little different than usual, however the increase in sales volumes suggests there is some ‘method in their madness.’
