Bridgestone supplies Runflat Tyres for Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
Bridgestone has announced that it has begun supplying Potenza RE050 RFT runflat tyres to Ferrari, for installation on the 612 Scaglietti. This will be the first model that Ferrari has equipped with Bridgestone runflats.
The company will provide two sizes for the 612 Scaglietti: 245/45ZR18 (96Y) for the front tyres and 285/40ZR19 (103Y) for the rear tyres.
The newly launched Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has a 12-cylinder, 540-horsepower engine and reaches a top speed of 199 miles per hour. And is available with the Bridgestone runflats as a factory option.
The Ferrari is the 11th vehicle model, including the models of other automakers, for which Bridgestone has supplied runflat tyres.
Although this is Ferrari’s the first time using runflats, it has installed alternative Bridgestone tyres as standard equipment on some of its previous models, including the Enzo Ferrari, and the F360 Modena.
Runflat tyres continue to function safely up to a specified maximum speed and distance after a loss of air pressure. The tyres employ sidewall reinforcement to maintain the shape and support a vehicle after a loss of air pressure.
In addition to increasing safety, runflats eliminate the need for carrying spare tyres. In effect that contributes to fuel economy through weight savings, and it gives automakers greater latitude in designing vehicles. Eliminating the spare tyre also reduces rubber consumption and rubber scrap.
