Smithers Scientific Reorganises

Smithers Scientific Services Inc. has reorganised as a result of its acquisition last March of a company specialising in environmental toxicology and analytical studies. The reorganisation brings three independent companies under the umbrella of the Smithers Group with worldwide headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

The Group companies include:Smithers Scientific Services, a leading testing, research and consulting firm for the tire, rubber, plastics, chemical and automotive industries; it is based in Akron.Smithers Quality Assessments, a leading third-party registrar providing quality and environmental management system certification services to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and other standards; also based in Akron.Springborn Smithers Laboratories, a leading contract research and regulatory compliance firm for the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and chemical industries, with U.

S. operations based in Wareham, Mass. and European operations in Horn, Switzerland.

The combined research centres located in Wareham, Mass.; Snow Camp, N.C.

and Horn, Switzerland employ about 115 people. The client list contains the largest chemical, agrochemical and pharmaceutical companies in the world.The original Group company – Smithers Scientific Services – was founded in 1925 and has been serving primarily the tire, rubber, automotive, plastics, and chemical industries.
