Logistic Centre Opens In Poland For Debica
Jarro Kaplan, Goodyear’s President for Middle and Eastern Europe, Africa and the Near East, recently officially opened the new Debica logistic centre in Tarnow, Poland. He was joined in the ceremony by Piotr Skalski, owner of the contractor which built the centre, and Zdsislaw Chabowski, President and General Director of TC Debica. The prompt delivery of orders is becoming increasingly important to customers who want to minimise their own stock holding and the new centre aims to fulfil orders anywhere in Poland within 24 hours.
A growing number of exports – Debica currently exports 75 per cent of sales – also made the new centre necessary. The storage area is 30,000 square metres in area, with scope to expand up to 50,000 sq. m.
and a total fenced area of more than 83,000 sq. m. The warehouse is equipped with 30 modern loading docks for trucks and the complex includes a two-storey office block.
Situated in the Polish town of Tarnow, the logistic centre has created 200 jobs. Initial investment is $12 million. To guard against fire, a unique system has been incorporated, which contains 4,000 so-called “intelligent sprinklers” and 22 km of piping; the system meets the strict requirements of the American NFPA standard.
Goodyear first invested in Debica in 1995 and now holds almost 60 per cent of the shares. The TC Debica plant is the biggest producer in Poland and claims a market share of nearly 50 per cent of the car and truck tyre market. Speaking at the logistic centre opening, Jarro Kaplan said: “Thanks to the last six years of investment [made by Goodyear], TC Debica has turned from the best Polish tyre producer into one of the best Goodyear companies worldwide.
