Four New Motorcycle Tyres From Bridgestone
The latest Battlax BT-090 is an ultra high performance motorcycle tyre aimed at the riders of 250-400cc class motorcycles seeking sporting on-road and circuit performance. Leading edge technology has been used to maximise the tyres wet and dry handling. Bridgestone’s 3D C.
T.D.M automated design system has been used to assist in mall-round rigidity giving even contact pressure at all lean angles and a better road feel in tighter corners.
The stiffness is created through the combination of a spiral belt and a revised bead design creating a stiffer sidewall whilst improved high-speed stability and anti-shimmy characteristics also improve normal road handling. The “Paisley pattern” tread gives fewer grooves in the shoulder area and more grooves in the central tread area, giving better water dispersal in the wet, and greater cornering ability in the dry. A high silica content ensures the highest level of grip regardless of temperature, allowing faster riding right from the start.
The Battlax BT-012SS is a sport radial for the larger-engined bike, over 600cc. Released after extensive testing on road and track the BT-012SS makes no compromises. The rear tyres are built with a revolutionary dual-belt construction which maintains high levels of grip, rotational power and shock absorption.
The Kevlar belting is supplemented by a belt on each shoulder to improve cornering and handling. An open central tread gives straight-line stability and a high silica compound improves grip in all conditions. The 3D C.

designed tread patterns create outstanding front-rear harmony, with the front tyre maximising stability at speed with minimal vibration, the rear tyre giving enhanced cornering grip and stability. The convex tyre profile created by the automated design equipment creates a tyre which allows faster and lighter cornering and a consistent contact patch at all lean angles. The two new motocross tyres are designed for use in medium hard and hard terrain conditions.
The M401 (front) and M402 (rear) tyres are designed to cope with European Grand Prix conditions, whilst the M601 (front) and M602 (rear) supersede the M77/M78 series and have been used to good effect in the American AMA Supercross championship. The motocross tyres use technology taken from the road racing experience. The MX-Cap-Base concept is an introduction of a dual layer compound, a first for motocross.
Designed for use in front tyres, this gives a dual benefit – giving the raised blocks a good stiffness for traction, and a shock absorbing layer to give straight line stability and grip. The rear motocross tyres use MX-SACT (straight and cornering technology) combining the dual compound technology with a triple-division structure first encountered in the Bridgestone Battlax road tyres. MX-SACT places a harder compound in the centre of the tyre and a softer compound on the shoulder to give predictable slide control.
