New High-Performance Tyre From Continental
The ContiSportContact has proved to be an extremely successful tyre, with 91 OE approvals and sales of 6.5 million units worldwide. However, the tyre industry moves fast, particularly in the high performance sector, and the ContiSportContact is being replaced by the ContiSportContact 2.
This is a low profile tyre (60 series down to 30 series) and will be available in more than 30 sizes, with speed ratings from V to Z and for wheels up to 20″ in diameter. Conti says that it is working on 21″ and 22″ sizes. A new compound combines stability and flexibility and the asymmetric, ribbed tread pattern means a more even pressure.
Large, circumferential grooves provide more efficient water evacuation. Two versions are available; a four-groove tyre for section widths up to 265 mm and a five-groove model for section widths over 275 mm. In tests, the CSC 2 outperformed its predecessor in all areas, performing better in wet and dry braking, handling and aquaplaning resistance.
Despite this, it will be offered at the same price as the original ContiSportContact, in order to encourage a quicker phase-out of the older tyre, says Continental. The ContiSportContact 2 has already received OE approvals from Porsche, for the 911 Turbo, Carrera and Boxster, and from Ford, for the new Mondeo. .
