Mexican Recall For Bridgestone/Firestone
More bad news for Bridgestone/Firestone Inc; hot on the heels of its 6.5 million tyre recall in the USA, the company has announced a further recall of 8,000 Wilderness LE tyres, made at its plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico and supplied to GM for fitment to its Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL SUVs. The tyre manufacturer emphasises that there is no connection between the US and Mexican recalls.
Bridgestone/Firestone says that the problem in Mexico concerns around 150 tyres, manufactured at the plant on 24 April 2000, but the entire production for week beginning 23 April is being recalled, to ensure an adequate margin of safety. The reason for the recall is an adhesion problem with the tyres’ skim stock, which is the thin band of rubber that holds the steel belts together. The tyres were supplied to fewer than 5,000 GM SUVs and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.
