Michelin Subsiduary Reduces Workforce In Poland
Michelin subsiduary Stomil-Olsztyn has announced that it will be reducing its workforce by 120 people during this year. At the same time, a further 70 full time employees have reverted to part-time. A company spokesperson states that the reason for the redundancies is to ensure improved levels of productivity in line with a strategy announced by Michelin France last October.
Mr Benoit de la Breteche, General Director of Stomil-Olsztyn has stressed that the company will be paying redundancy payments that are well above the statutory minimum required by Polish law.During the past three years the company has invested $US 151 million in order to extensively modernise the manufacturing plant and Stomil’s management team are confident that the factory can continue to produce tyres of the highest standards despite having to reduce its workforce. Stomil-Olsztyn are located in the regions of Warmia and Mazury in northern Poland and employ around 4,000 workers who produce passenger, truck, light truck and agricultural tyres as well as tyre fabrics and curing moulds.
