Job Cuts At Tenneco Automotive USA
Tenneco Automotive, the company which makes, among other products, Monroe shock absorbers and Walker exhaust systems, has announced that it is cutting 285 salaried posts at four locations in the American mid-West. The news comes as third quarter income fell sharply to $9 million, down from $27 million for the corresponding quarter last year. The latest moves follow the loss already this year of 145 salaries positions, mostly through natural wastage, and it is expected that further job losses will follow – possibly as many as 700 at Tenneco’s world-wide operations.
The company has said that there ill be losses in Asia and South America, although no numbers have been quoted. Blame is put on market conditions and structural costs that are higher than the industry average Mark Frissora, Chairman and Chief Executive, said that he “regretted the impact on our people, however, we must make these difficult decisions in order to move our businesses forward and position them for long-term growth.” The cuts are expected to save around $45 million a year.
