Goodyear Turnaround “On Track”
Goodyear had to accept a decrease in volumes in the USA for April probably due to the fact that the company increased prices and the dealers bought more than usual in March to beat the price increase. There is also a chance that the volume will fall again in May due to the fact that competitors have announced a price increase too, effective 1st June, and dealers will once again increase stocks. It seems as though Goodyear has been able to make the new prices stick.
In Europe, both brands – Goodyear and Dunlop – were able to win market share. A negative factor is the restructuring costs which the group will incur in paying for job losses at its factory in Birmingham, UK. These costs could have an adverse effect on figures for the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
